Pandora have released five new Wood Beads. They are beautiful and smooth and can be mixed with a the classic silver or gold bracelets or put on a leather string to make a natural item of jewellery that will look good with casual or smart wear.

Acapu is harvested in the rain forests of Brazil, French Guiana and Surinam. The tree reaches 50 to 75 ft in height and is cut by local natives.

It is coloured from dark yellowish brown, to dark brown, to reddish brown, is very dense and has a beautiful texture.

Muiracatiara is found in the rain forests of Brazil. Muiracatiara is an indigenous word meaning painted wood and in English is often called Tiger Wood because of its distinctive orange brown colour and irregular pattern of black stripes. It is a very hard and dense wood and will darken in colour over time.

The flowers of the Muiracatiara attract honey bees and the local people use it for collecting honey. It is also said to be one of the favourite nesting sites for the Lilac-crowned Parrot.

Muriapiranga wood comes from the Amazon in Brazil and is very hard and heavy, it sinks in water even when it is dry! It is yellowish brown to dark red-brown in colour, has a warm and special lustre and is extraordinarily beautiful.

Another wood from Brazil, Curaçao de negro is known for its medicinal properties, in which seeds, fruits, roots and bark are used for a number of specialised treatments. Curaçao de negro is known locally as pau ferro, which means iron wood, it is one of the hardest woods to saw by hand and one of the heaviest woods in the world.

Pau Amarelo is a tree that is very abundant throughout tropical Central and South America including the Caribbean. Naturally, as tree called Amarelo, it is a bright yellow wood and is used to dye fabrics and make wine.

As a Pandora bead it really stands out, whether grouped with other wood beads or matched with gold or silver beads.

As well as using Pandora wood beads along with gold and silver beads, you can thread them on a Pandora leather lariat with sterling silver ends, engraved PANDORA.

The lariat is available in one length, 100cm and is designed to be twisted and knotted in many ways to create different looks. To create a bracelet, the lariat is wrapped around the wrist multiple times.

Pandora supports sustainable and economically viable forestry together with education, so that endangered rainforests are protected. That’s why Pandora have collaborated with the Rainforest Protection Initiative and why the beads have been made in accordance with the Canopy Wood Code of Conduct for responsible forestry, as well as Forestry Stewardship Standards (FSC).

FSC is an independent organisation established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. In an FSC forest, trees are cut for timber in a responsible manner; animals and plant life are protected; and the rights of indigenous people are safeguarded.

So when you wear a Pandora bracelet with wood beads, you will be wearing not just a lovely fashion accessory, but know that you are in tune with the planet.

At last opening day arrived and the shop has opened. Despite the holidays, lots of people came along and a few bottles of wine were opened to toast the opening and welcome our first visitors.

Fortunately, the rain stayed away so the shop was soon quite busy with well wishers and customers spilling on to the pavement outside.

We even managed to sell some jewellery as well, including some Pandora Bangles and Monica Vinader necklaces.
